It lasts between 40 to 60 days. It normally does not need assistance except it is noticeable that puppies cry a lot during the first or second day; in that case a supplement of enriched cow milk will be needed to equal the mother’s milk.

The mother must be given balanced food for puppies to make sure it consumes the nutrients needed for breastfeeding.
